Updated Training Requirements for Security Industry
(with effect from 1 Jan 2024)

With effect from 1 January 2024, there will be changes to the security training requirements. This will affect:

Existing Security Officers and all new Security Officers

Existing Security Officers will need to complete “Operate Basic Security Equipment” by 31 December 2025 to remain deployable.

With effect from 1 January 2024, new security officers would still be required to complete 3 basic licencing units (BLU). The current 3-day “Provide Guard and Patrol Services” will be replaced with a 4-day “Provide Guard and Patrol Services and Operate Basic Security Equipment”

Existing Senior Security Officers and Security Officers who wish to become Senior Security Officers

Existing Senior Security Officers will need to complete “Security Surveillance Management (Perform Remote Surveillance Function)” by 31 December 2025 to retain their rank.

“Perform Remote Surveillance Function” is a 3-day course that covers topics such as operating remote security surveillance equipment, (e.g. CCTVs), and response to security incidents upon detection from remote security surveillance equipment.

With effect from 1 January 2024, Security officers (SOs) who intend to progress to become SSOs must pass the following 2 modules:

The year-in-grade requirement (6 months as Security Officer) remains unchanged.

PLRD Licence Renewal

With effect from 1 Jan 2024, all existing security licence holders will need to complete an online refresher quiz to be eligible for licence renewal. Officers will receive a notice from the Singapore Police Force 3 months before their licence expiry. The renewal notice will include a QR code to access the refresher quiz and the training package. The refresher quiz will be $20. Officers have unlimited attempts to pass the quiz and it is recommended to pass the quiz within 3 months of the renewal notice.
